“Then saith HE unto HIS disciples, The Harvest truly is plenteous, but the labourers are few; pray ye therefore the LORD of the Harvest, that HE will send forth labourers into HIS Harvest” (Matthew 9:37–38).
This is not a gentle suggestion; it is an urgent cry from the heart of Heaven. The harvest is not lacking. Souls are ready. Lives are waiting. Eternity hangs in the balance. Yet, the labourers are few.
Why?
In the days of JESUS, there were many religious figures, the Pharisees, men known for their outward devotion and visible spirituality. Yet, JESUS did not count them as labourers. Why? Because their service was driven by self, not by GOD.
As seen in Matthew 23, they sought recognition in public spaces, exploited the vulnerable, and taught what they themselves did not live. They had activity, but not alignment. They had titles, but not truth. And Heaven does not recognize labour that is rooted in selfish ambition.
The same question confronts us today: are we truly labourers, or merely participants in religious routine?
In Matthew 20:1–16, the householder went out repeatedly: morning, noon, and even at the eleventh hour, seeking labourers for his vineyard. This persistence reveals something critical:
Heaven is in urgent need of labourers. The call has not ceased. The search has not ended. The LORD is still walking through the marketplace of men, looking for those who will answer.
There is a portion of the vineyard assigned to each person. A field with your name on it. A responsibility Heaven expects you to carry.
But it is not discovered by assumption; it is revealed through seeking. It is expedient, therefore, that we ask the LORD of the Harvest to show us our portion and align our hearts with HIS Divine intent.
This call is not for personal gain. It is not for fame, recognition, platforms, or applause. It is not about titles or visibility. The true labourer is driven by one passion alone: the advancement of the Kingdom and the preparation of souls for the day of the LORD. Anything outside of this is a deviation, no matter how impressive it appears.
This is a moment for honest reflection. Examine the work you are doing. Does the LORD recognize it? Is it birthed from obedience or ambition? Is it sustained by intimacy or performance?
Do not assume, seek HIM. Ask the LORD today: “Am I truly YOUR labourer, or have I drifted from my assignment?” And when you pray for the harvest, do not point to another. Do not imagine a more qualified or convenient person.
Say, “LORD, send me.” The Harvest is plentiful, and your hands are needed. Your voice is needed. Your obedience is needed.
But understand this: GOD does not send just anyone; HE sends those who meet HIS standard. A true labourer is a follower of CHRIST, yielded in heart, pure in motive, and wholly given to the will of the FATHER. The assignment is sacred, and it demands sincerity.
The call is urgent. The field is ready. The LORD is waiting.
Will you answer, or will you delay while the Harvest passes?
