One of the greatest misconceptions about the work of GOD is the belief that HE sends only the naturally courageous. Scripture reveals the exact opposite. Throughout redemptive history, GOD has consistently chosen ordinary men and women, many of whom were conscious of their weaknesses, and transformed them into fearless witnesses through the power of HIS presence.
The confidence of the messenger has never originated from personality, eloquence, or natural ability; it has always flowed from the certainty of the One who sends.
Divine sending is therefore inseparable from divine empowerment.
When GOD called Moses to confront Pharaoh, Moses immediately became aware of his inadequacies. He questioned his ability to speak, his authority to lead, and even his identity (Exodus 3:11; 4:10). Yet GOD never answered Moses by increasing his self-confidence. Instead, HE gave him a greater revelation of HIS presence: “Certainly I will be with thee” (Exodus 3:12)._ This establishes an enduring Kingdom principle: the boldness of the sent is rooted in the presence of the Sender.
Wherever GOD commissions a man, HE accompanies him with the grace necessary to fulfil that assignment.
The same pattern is evident in the ministry of JESUS. Before sending the disciples into the world, HE did not promise favourable conditions or universal acceptance. Rather, HE warned them, “Behold, I send you forth as sheep in the midst of wolves” (Matthew 10:16).
The mission field would be marked by hostility, rejection, and opposition. Yet this warning was immediately followed by instruction: “Be ye therefore wise as serpents, and harmless as doves.” Kingdom boldness is neither reckless nor timid. It is courage governed by wisdom, purity, and complete dependence upon GOD.
The climax of this truth is seen after the resurrection. Before giving the Great Commission, JESUS declared, “All authority is given unto ME in Heaven and in Earth. Go ye therefore…” (Matthew 28:18–20). The command to go rests upon HIS authority, not ours. We do not represent ourselves in the Harvest field; we are ambassadors of the KING (2 Corinthians 5:20).
Every witness, every conversation, every act of obedience carries the weight of Heaven because the labourer has been commissioned by CHRIST Himself.
Yet JESUS understood that authority alone was not enough. The disciples needed power to faithfully represent the Kingdom. Consequently, HE instructed them not to begin the work immediately but to wait until they were “endued with power from on high” (Luke 24:49)._Acts 1:8 reveals the purpose of this empowerment: “Ye shall receive power, after that the HOLY GHOST is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto ME.” The HOLY SPIRIT was not given merely for personal experience but for public witness.
Boldness is one of the clearest evidences of a life yielded to the HOLY SPIRIT.The transformation of the early Church illustrates this beautifully. Only days before Pentecost, the disciples hid behind locked doors for fear of the Jews (John 20:19). Peter, once intimidated by the accusation of a servant girl, denied even knowing JESUS (Luke 22:54–62). Yet after being filled with the HOLY SPIRIT, the same Peter stood before thousands and boldly proclaimed the crucified and risen CHRIST (Acts 2:14–41).
Later, when threatened by the authorities, the believers did not pray for persecution to cease. Instead, they prayed, “Grant unto thy servants, that with all boldness they may speak THY word” (Acts 4:29).
GOD answered immediately, “They were all filled with the HOLY SPIRIT, and they spake the word of GOD with boldness” (Acts 4:31). Heaven’s answer to opposition was not escape but greater empowerment.
Boldness, however, extends beyond public preaching. It is equally expressed through quiet obedience. Philip boldly left a thriving revival in Samaria to meet one Ethiopian traveller because the HOLY SPIRIT directed him _(Acts 8:26–35). Ananias overcame fear to minister to Saul, trusting GOD’S instruction above his personal concerns (Acts 9:10–17). Peter crossed long-standing cultural boundaries to enter the house of Cornelius because he recognised that the Gospel was for every nation (Acts 10:19–35).
In each case, boldness was demonstrated not merely by speaking but by obeying.The Apostle Paul further reveals that boldness is a grace to be continually sought. Though he had preached across nations, planted churches, and endured severe persecution, he still requested prayer “that utterance may be given unto me, that I may open my mouth boldly, to make known the mystery of the gospel” (Ephesians 6:19–20). Spiritual maturity never removes dependence upon divine grace. Every generation must receive fresh boldness from GOD to fulfil its assignment.
Our world desperately needs this kind of witness. The harvest is filled with men and women searching for hope, truth, and purpose. Many will never enter a church building, but they will encounter believers in classrooms, offices, hospitals, markets, governments, and homes. The question is not whether the harvest is ready; JESUS has already declared that “the harvest truly is plenteous” (Matthew 9:37). The question is whether labourers will step into the field with unwavering confidence in the ONE who sends them.
Boldness in sending is therefore not loudness, self-assurance, or religious zeal. It is the settled conviction that the Gospel remains the power of GOD unto salvation (Romans 1:16), that CHRIST is worthy of being proclaimed, and that the HOLY SPIRIT faithfully empowers every obedient witness. The Church advances not because her labourers are naturally fearless, but because they have become convinced that obedience is greater than comfort and that eternity outweighs temporary opposition.
Every commission from GOD carries its own provision. Every assignment carries accompanying grace. Every place HE sends becomes a place where HIS presence has already gone before us. Therefore, do not wait until you feel capable. Respond while trusting the One who called you. The harvest belongs to GOD, the authority belongs to CHRIST, the power belongs to the HOLY SPIRIT, and the obedience belongs to us.
When these realities meet, the nations cannot remain untouched.
