The Harvest has always been GOD’S initiative. Before there was a labourer, there was the LORD of the Harvest (Matthew 9:37-38). Before there was a mission, there was redemption through JESUS CHRIST (John 3:16; Hebrews 2:3-4). Consequently, the work of the Harvest has never depended upon the strength, intelligence, or ability of men, but upon the abundant provision of GOD. Central to that provision is grace.
Grace is not merely the means by which sinners are saved; it is the divine supply that equips believers to fulfil GOD’S purpose on the earth. The same grace that calls a man into the Kingdom also empowers him to labour faithfully for the advancement of that Kingdom.
Scripture consistently presents grace as GOD’S active enablement rather than passive favour. While Ephesians 2:8-9 teaches that salvation is entirely by grace through faith, the purpose of that grace extends beyond conversion.
Apostle Paul immediately explains that “we are HIS workmanship, created in CHRIST JESUS unto good works, which GOD hath before ordained that we should walk in them” (Ephesians 2:10). Grace does not merely rescue men from sin; it prepares, equips, and empowers them to accomplish the works GOD designed for them before the foundation of the world.
The Apostle Paul is perhaps the clearest biblical example of grace as provision for divine assignment. Reflecting on his ministry, he writes, “By the grace of GOD I am what I am: and HIS grace which was bestowed upon me was not in vain; but I laboured more abundantly than they all: yet not I, but the grace of GOD which was with me” (1 Corinthians 15:10).
Remarkably, Apostle Paul does not contrast grace with labour. Rather, grace becomes the very power that makes effective labour possible.
Divine grace does not produce passivity; it produces productivity. It does not eliminate effort; it empowers it.
This principle is evident throughout Scripture. Noah found grace before building the ark (Genesis 6:8). Moses received grace in the form of GOD’S abiding presence to lead Israel through the wilderness (Exodus 33:12-17). Gideon, despite his weakness, was strengthened by GOD to deliver Israel (Judges 6:14-16). The prophets, judges, kings, and apostles all fulfilled their assignments because GOD supplied what their calling demanded. Heaven never assigns a task without also providing the grace necessary to accomplish it.
The earthly ministry of JESUS further establishes this truth. Although HE was the eternal SON of GOD, HE ministered under the anointing of the HOLY SPIRIT (Luke 4:18; Acts 10:38), demonstrating that Kingdom ministry is accomplished through divine empowerment rather than independent human ability.
Likewise, before sending the disciples into the nations, JESUS instructed them to wait until they were “endued with power from on high” (Luke 24:49). That promise was fulfilled on the Day of Pentecost when the HOLY SPIRIT came upon them (Acts 1:8; Acts 2:1-4).
Their boldness, wisdom, endurance, and miraculous effectiveness were all expressions of GOD’S gracious provision for the Harvest. Grace is also the provision that sustains the labourer. The Harvest is often accompanied by opposition, discouragement, sacrifice, and spiritual warfare. Left to human strength alone, every labourer would eventually become weary.Yet GOD declares, “My grace is sufficient for thee: for MY strength is made perfect in weakness” (2 Corinthians 12:9).
Grace supplies strength when natural ability is exhausted, courage when fear arises, wisdom when decisions must be made, and perseverance when the work seems difficult.
It is GOD’S continual supply that enables believers not merely to begin the race but to finish it faithfully.
Furthermore, grace ensures that what GOD has planted bears lasting fruit. JESUS taught, “I am the vine, ye are the branches… for without ME ye can do nothing” (John 15:5). Fruitfulness is never the product of human striving but of abiding in CHRIST.
As believers remain in fellowship with HIM through the HOLY SPIRIT, grace continually nourishes their lives, producing the fruit of righteousness and making their labour effective (Galatians 5:22-23). Apostle Paul captures this beautifully when he says, “I planted, Apollos watered; but GOD gave the increase” (1 Corinthians 3:6). Labour belongs to the servant, but increase belongs to GOD.
Therefore, grace is Heaven’s provision for the Harvest. It saves the sinner, forms the disciple, equips the labourer, strengthens the weary, and guarantees that GOD’S purposes will not fail. Every soul won, every disciple raised, every life transformed, and every act of faithful service is ultimately the testimony of GOD’S grace at work. The LORD never calls men into HIS Harvest without supplying what the Harvest requires.
Our confidence, therefore, must never rest in our gifts, experience, or resources, but in the inexhaustible grace of GOD, for where GOD gives an assignment, HE also gives the grace to accomplish it. Indeed, the Harvest continues because Heaven continually supplies its labourers with grace.
