LIVING FREE FROM A FORGIVEN PAST

The season of harvest is here; a season in which the LORD is calling and deploying labourers into HIS vineyard. JESUS describes this in Matthew 20:1–7, where the master went out at different hours of the day to invite labourers into his vineyard.

Their usefulness was not determined by how early they were found, but by their willingness to respond when the invitation came. The moment the Master calls, the appropriate response is to rise, enter the field, and labour faithfully.

Scripture declares, “For the gifts and the calling of GOD are irrevocable” (Romans 11:29). The failure of our past does not make GOD’S purpose incapable of being fulfilled. Yet while GOD does not revoke HIS calling, we can allow guilt, shame, compromise, and an unresolved past to hinder our participation in it.

A forgiven past must not become a prison for a redeemed life.

The Harvest requires messengers who understand that they have been forgiven, justified, and restored in CHRIST. We cannot effectively represent the KING while continually defining ourselves by what HE has already forgiven. The enemy wants yesterday’s failure to become today’s identity, but Scripture calls us to walk “in newness of life” (Romans 6:4).

Freedom from condemnation is not permission to remain unchanged; it is grace to become what CHRIST has called us to be.

Peter is a powerful picture of this truth. He denied JESUS three times, yet the risen CHRIST deliberately sought him, confronted his failure, and restored him to his assignment: “Feed My sheep” (John 21:15–17). His failure became part of his story, but it did not become the conclusion of his story.

Paul also understood this tension. He never forgot that he had persecuted the Church, yet he refused to allow his past to paralyse his present calling. He became an apostle and was entrusted with the Gospel to the Gentiles (1 Timothy 1:12–16; Acts 9:15).

Your past may explain where you have been, but it does not have the authority to determine where CHRIST is taking you.

The answer is not to pretend the past never happened, but to surrender it completely to CHRIST. Let the Word continually renew your mind (Romans 12:2), let the HOLY SPIRIT lead you into the reality of your new identity, and let grace teach you to walk differently (Titus 2:11–12).

Paul said, “forgetting what lies behind and reaching forward to what lies ahead, I press on toward the goal” (Philippians 3:13–14). The Harvest does not need messengers chained to yesterday; it needs men and women standing confidently in the redemption CHRIST has accomplished.

You are not called to live forever beneath the shadow of what CHRIST has already forgiven; rise from yesterday, walk in the freedom of grace, and step into the harvest with the boldness of one who knows that redemption has given your future back to GOD.
