The final instruction of our LORD JESUS to HIS disciples was clear: “Go therefore and make disciples of all nations” (Matthew 28:19–20). This command reveals that discipleship is not an optional ministry within the Church but a central expression of the heart of CHRIST and a vital pathway through which the Harvest is gathered, established, and sustained.
Discipleship is a lifelong journey of following JESUS, learning HIS ways, submitting to HIS lordship, and progressively becoming conformed to HIS image. CHRIST “died for all, that those who live should no longer live for themselves, but for HIM who died for them and was raised again” (2 Corinthians 5:15)
Salvation is therefore not the conclusion of the journey; it is the gracious entrance into a life of transformation, obedience, and fruitful participation in the purposes of GOD.
The Harvest represents men and women scattered among the nations who must not merely be reached but established in CHRIST. The goal is not simply to produce larger congregations, but mature sons and daughters who can faithfully represent CHRIST and become “complete in CHRIST” (Colossians 1:28).
Paul described this burden when he wrote, “My little children, for whom I labour in birth again until CHRIST is formed in you” (Galatians 4:19).
True Harvest therefore involves more than gathering; it involves nurturing, establishing, equipping, and reproducing. GOD has strategically positioned believers in families, workplaces, schools, communities, institutions, and other spheres of influence as instruments for reaching the Harvest.
HE seeks faithful people to whom the work can be entrusted people who will not keep the Gospel to themselves but will commit its truth to others who can teach others also (2 Timothy 2:2).
This is the multiplication principle of discipleship: one transformed life becomes a vessel through which other lives are transformed.
Discipleship is a means of advancing the reign of CHRIST, strengthening the Church, raising spiritual labourers, and bringing believers from infancy to maturity.
As Paul writes, believers are GOD’S workmanship, “created in CHRIST JESUS for good works, which GOD prepared beforehand” (Ephesians 2:10). The Father is glorified when HIS people bear lasting fruit (John 15:8).
Yet fruitful discipleship demands more than enthusiasm. It requires patience, sacrifice, prayer, teaching, correction, example, and consistent investment in people.
JESUS Himself demonstrated this pattern by walking closely with HIS disciples, teaching them, correcting them, empowering them, and eventually sending them.
Therefore, as we engage the Harvest, let us carry the heart of the Good Shepherd not merely seeking decisions, numbers, or crowds, but labouring until CHRIST is formed in men.
The true measure of a Harvest is not how many we gather, but how many become disciples who can faithfully carry the life of CHRIST into the next generation.
