The heart is small, yet it carries depths that the human mind cannot fully measure. From the beginning, the LORD formed your heart with purpose. It was never meant to be merely an organ with four chambers that governs the flow of blood, nor simply a drum that beats without ceasing.
HE created it to be the centre of your thoughts, affections, desires, convictions, and deepest longings. What occupies your heart will eventually shape the direction of your life.
The desires of the human heart are many. Apart from GOD, the heart continually reaches for things that can never completely satisfy its deepest hunger. It searches for recognition, possessions, pleasure, influence, acceptance, and achievement, yet remains thirsty.
But JESUS was the Bread of Life and the Living Water. HE said, “Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they shall be satisfied” (Matthew 5:6, ESV). HE also declared, “Whoever drinks of the water that I will give him will never be thirsty again” (John 4:14, ESV). What the heart ultimately seeks can only be found in HIM.
The heart is deep, and without HIM, it is difficult even for you to fully understand it. Scripture says, “The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately sick; who can understand it?” (Jeremiah 17:9, ESV).
From the heart flow the issues of life (Proverbs 4:23). Within it may dwell faith and love, but also pride, deceit, selfish ambition, bitterness, the pursuit of fame, and fleeting desires.
Therefore, your heart must not simply be followed; it must be surrendered, examined, and continually brought under HIS Word.
For HIS sons and daughters, let your heart become a dwelling place for faith, hope, love, truth, and the knowledge of Me. Let CHRIST occupy the deepest chambers of your affection. A heart yielded to HIM becomes a vessel through which HIS character, wisdom, and love can be expressed to others.
The heart can contain far more of GOD’S purposes than you presently comprehend. Therefore, guard what enters it, meditate on HIS Word, and give HIM the deepest place within you. “Keep your heart with all vigilance, for from it flow the springs of life” (Proverbs 4:23, ESV).
Your heart speaks. What it treasures will eventually speak through your life. So let your heart belong wholly to GOD, because when CHRIST rules the heart, the life begins to reveal the ONE who lives within.
